Privacy Policy — Total Recall
Last updated: 17 May 2026
Total Recall is a Chrome extension that snapshots your open browser windows and tabs so you can restore them after a browser crash, accidental quit, or restart. This policy explains what data the extension touches, where it goes, and what we don't do with it.
What the extension accesses
To build a session snapshot, the extension reads, from every open window (including incognito):
- the URL of each tab
- the title of each tab
- the pinned/active state of each tab
- the window's type (normal/popup), state (maximized/etc.), and whether it is an incognito window
It does not read page contents, form fields, passwords, cookies, browsing history beyond currently open tabs, location, or any personally identifying information.
Where the data is stored
The snapshot is stored locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local
API. Two values are kept:
- a live snapshot of currently open windows and tabs, continuously updated
- a previous-session snapshot, captured at the end of your last browsing session and consumed when you click Restore previous session
Nothing is uploaded, transmitted, synced across devices, or sent to the developer or any third party. The extension does not load or execute remote code.
What we do not do
- We do not collect, sell, share, or transfer your data.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, error reporting, or advertising.
- We do not use the data for any purpose other than restoring your previous session.
Retention and deletion
Data lives only on your device. The previous-session snapshot is deleted automatically after a successful restore. Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data immediately.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at the same URL with a new "Last updated" date.
